Matthew 5:1-12a

GOSPEL Tile_edited_edited.jpg

Seeing the crowds, Jesus went up on the mountain, and when he sat

down, his disciples came to him.  And he opened his mouth and

taught them, saying:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of

heaven.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,

for they shall be satisfied.

“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

“Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven.

Matthew 11:25-30

At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of

heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things

from the wise and understanding and revealed them

to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father,

and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one

knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son

chooses to reveal him. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy

laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn

from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest

for your souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Matthew 25:1-13

Jesus told his disciples this parable:

“Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took

their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom.  Five of them were

foolish, and five were wise.  For when the foolish took their lamps,

they took no oil with them,  but the wise took flasks of oil with

their lamps.  As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became

drowsy and slept.  But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the

bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ Then all those virgins rose

and  trimmed their lamps.  And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give

us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’  But the wise

answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for

you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’  And while

they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were

ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was

shut.  Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord,

open to us.’ But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know

you.’ Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

Matthew 15:33-39

And when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the

whole land until the ninth hour And at the ninth hour Jesus cried

with a loud voice,   “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means,

“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” And some of the

bystanders hearing it said, “Behold, he is calling Elijah.” And

someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a reed

and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Wait, let us see whether

Elijah will come to take him down.”  And Jesus uttered a loud cry

and breathed his last. And the curtain of the temple was torn in

two, from top to bottom. And when the centurion, who stood

facing him, saw that in this way he breathed his last, he said,

“Truly this man was the Son of God!”
